Underscoring the Microsoft commitment to
delivering technology innovations that help
customers improve their overall security, Bill
Gates, Microsoft chairperson and chief software
architect, demonstrated the next generation of
Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration
(ISA) Server at COMDEX Las Vegas 2003. ISA
Server 2004 will be available for public beta in
early 2004.
What is Microsoft ISA Server 2004?
ISA Server 2004 is Microsoft Corp.’s
next-generation enterprise firewall, virtual
private network (VPN), and Web cache solution.
ISA Server 2004 takes application-layer
filtering, simplified management integration,
and fast Web access to new levels, making it a
“must consider” for any organization looking to
augment its existing security infrastructure.
What’s new in Microsoft ISA Server 2004?
Microsoft ISA Server 2004 builds on an
updated architecture that has been specifically
designed to combat the latest types of Internet
attacks and worms with features such as
signature blocking. It also offers a new,
simplified user interface that can help
customers avoid firewall misconfiguration—a
common cause of network security breaches. In
addition, ISA Server 2004 includes a greatly
expanded array of tools and other features for
enabling and securing VPN access to corporate
networks.
Who should consider Microsoft ISA Server
2004?
Any company that puts network security at a
premium. ISA Server 2004 is suitable for a broad
range of customers, from small businesses
looking for a simple yet integrated edge
security product to enterprises deploying
complex security scenarios. Midsize businesses
in particular are ideal candidates for ISA
Server 2004 because it meets their need for an
advanced application-layer security solution
that is easy to use and manage. With ISA Server
2004, customers do not have to spend time buying,
deploying, and managing disparate systems.
Why would I consider ISA Server 2004 if I’m
already perfectly happy with my existing
firewall?
Microsoft believes that an in-depth defense
strategy is the best approach for any business
today. In many situations, ISA Server 2004 alone
will provide adequate and cost-effective
protection for networks. In other scenarios,
particularly at larger companies, ISA Server’s
application-layer security capabilities will
help provide added protection to existing packet
filtering and stateful inspection provided by
traditional firewalls.
When will Microsoft ISA Server 2004 be
available?
Customers and partners can get a jump on
experiencing the benefits of ISA Server 2004 by
participating in the public beta program, which
kicks off in early 2004.
